From the book
In the early 1970s, an Archon stood before a room of young Black professionals at a mentorship forum in Atlanta. He was a towering presence, sharp, composed, and unapologetically proud of his membership in the Boulé.
“You may not know our name,” he began, “but I promise you, you’ve benefited from our presence.”
He spoke of boardrooms where he’d been the only Black voice, policies shaped over private dinners, scholarships quietly funded, and careers quietly propelled. Then he paused. “Our role isn’t to be known,” he said. “It is to be effective.”
That moment captures the heart of this book. For over 120 years, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, the Boulé, has wielded quiet influence and stood as a beacon of excellence, resilience, and leadership among high-achieving Black men… But now, as the global, political, and technological landscape shifts, so too must our posture. Influence must become intentional. Legacy must evolve into leadership.

As an adult, I have been blessed with a partner, First Archousa Michelle, whose wisdom and support have sustained me through the inevitable storms that a Black man on a mission often faces. Together with our daughter Kyra, she has been a steadying force.
